It's a...healthy baby!!!!

Mike just couldn't wait any longer to find out if we were having a boy or a girl. He called Dr. Hodor, the perinatal who was doing our anatomy scan, the week before to see if they could fit us in sooner and they said they didn't have any earlier appointments. So he called Capitol Women's Care, our OB/GYN to see if they could take us, and they said that because I was considered high risk, I had to have it done at Dr. Hodor's office. He was so bummed out, and could hardly wait until the following Tuesday at 2:30pm.

Finally, the day was here! Tuesday, April 10th, 2012! I had to go to work, otherwise I'd be home twidling my thumbs. I had already purchased M&M's for the "reveal" party that were set to deliver on Thursday. I ordered pink and white M&M's that said Alexandra Leigh on some, and August 31, 2012 on others. I also ordered blue and white M&M's that said Brayden Michael on some, and August 31, 2012 on the others.

I headed to Party City searching for an opaque favor box....something creative that family could open without already seeing "It's a Girl" or "It's a Boy" through the package. I found cute, little, black favor boxes, and purchased pink and blue balloon ribbons to tie on the outside. I also found some scrunchie confetti paper to fill the box a little bit, and poured the M&M's over it.

I just had this gut feeling that we were having a girl, and Mike was certain we were having a boy based on how I was carrying. Although he wanted a little baby girl, a daddy's girl, he swore up and down it was going to be a boy.

My work day kept getting longer and longer, and I felt like the clock was moving backwards. My knee was rocking a mile a minute, and I kept getting texts from Mike. FINALLY 1:45pm rolled around and I could hop in the car and head up 270 to the appointment. I talked to Mike most of the ride up, and asked him what was going through his mind, and all we both could say was we just wanted a healthy little peanut that we could eventually call our son or daugter.

We arrived at Dr. Hodor's office, and it's like my body knows I'm about to get an ultrasound, and all of a sudden I have to go to the bathroom sooooo bad. "I'm sorry ma'am but the ultrasound technician needs you to have a full bladder." UGH! That's the last thing I need to hear! I promise I'll have to go again in 5 minutes if you let me go now. But, I wait patiently anyways.

Moments go by, although it felt like days, and I hear my name called! Halleluijah! We are up baby! We head back, and I hop up on the table while Mike hobbles to his chair. The technician introduces herself, and explains that for the anatomy scan she starts from the head and works her way down to the feet. Mike and I both look at each other....talk about torture! She knows exactly what we are here for, but of course we want to know if everything is ok with the life we've created inside of me. She asks if we would like to know the sex of the baby as she's measuring the head, and the arms, and all the teeney little body parts, and we say absolutely. I asked her if we could guess when she got to that part, and then she tell us the correct answer and she said you bet!

So finally we get to that part, and I'm thinking I see three tiny lines. I said, I think it's a girl, and she said yup, you guys have got yourselves a little baby girl! I pretended as if I didn't see the hundreds of signs in the room that said "Absolutely no cell phone use in the exam rooms" and asked her if I could call my best friend. Mike and I both teary-eyed, hand in hand called Jenn, and I told her that her and her mom could keep the decorations that they have for the shower, that we were in fact expecting a baby girl! She was so excited, and I could hear Cindie in the background cheering. I called my cousin Amber next, who swore we were having a baby boy! I told her we were having a girl, and she was sooooo excited for us!

I wasn't sure how I was going to keep the secret until Saturday for the reveal party, but not to worry, because I didn't! I slipped on the car ride to Montgomery Mall talking on the phone with Mom. I'm pretty sure had Mike not hit me after I said "she," Mom would have never gotton the hint, and I could have alternated between he and she throughout the rest of the phone conversation.

I asked Mike if we could ride down to Montgomery Mall after my appointment to get a little frog if we were having a boy, or a little lady bug if we were having a girl. I called Monday to see if they had both in stock, and the sales associate said yes, and I could give her a card number over the phone to hold them. I told her I wasn't sure which one we were going to get, and explained my story. She thought that was the cutest thing ever!
